- Right Worshipful Lord Mayor of Westminster
Councillor Karen Scarborough has been elected as the new Right Worshipful Lord Mayor of Westminster following a vote at Full Council on 20 May.
Cllr Scarborough has represented the Marylebone Ward since 2014 priding herself on being a strong advocate on local community issues.
She has held several roles, including Deputy Cabinet Member positions for Children & Young People, Communities, and City Management & Highways. She has also served on several committees, including the Air Quality Strategy Group and the Marylebone Low Emission Neighbourhood, and has chaired both the Scrutiny Committee and the Licensing Committee.
Extensive contributions to community and charitable organisations have also featured alongside council work. Cllr Scarborough is a Governor for a local primary school a Trustee for the Young Westminster Foundation and a member of both the Harley Street BID and Edgware Strategy Group.
Her passions for supporting Children & Young People and preventing homelessness are reflecting in her two chosen charities: Young Westminster Foundation and The Passage. As a trustee and volunteer, she has seen first-hand the impact of both organisations. During her term, The Lord Mayor will focus on improving access to culture for children and young people, championing cultural opportunities in Westminster and promoting careers within the arts and cultural sectors.
Born in Scotland, Cllr Scarborough has lived in Westminster for most of her life. She has a background in law and business and is married with three children, five grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. Outside public life, her interests include opera, music, theatre, gardening, reading, cooking, and spending time with family and friends.
