In line with the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings, LMA members undertook a fascinating trip to the Battle of Britain Bunker in Hillingdon Borough. A volunteer there gave an excellent talk, explaining how everything operated- how information was received from multiple sources – how it was evaluated in the light of available resources – and how instructions were disseminated to airfields and other operating units. The volunteer’s knowledge was immense and he had a few stories with it which he obviously really enjoyed telling. There was also a trip to their workshop where the volunteers made models of the aircraft involved in the Battle of Britain.
