LMA Visit to Old Bailey – November 2024

The Old Bailey was the stunning venue for the LMA’s latest civic visit. Invited by the outgoing Sheriff, Dame Susan Langley, LMA members enjoyed a lunch in the Judges’ Dining Room and an educational tour of the rooms expertly led by Jay Patel. This is the fifth year that the LMA has been invited to visit the Old Bailey to not only appreciate the beautiful architecture but to be reminded of the long and proud history of justice in that place.

Built on the site of the infamous Newgate Prison, these rooms are very seldom open to the public. Famous Newgate Prison inmates include Daniel Dafoe, author of Robinson Crusoe and the Quaker, William Penn who went on to found the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in the American colonies.
