The Civic Mayors

Every year the elected members of the London borough Councils elect a Mayor (or Lord Mayor in the cities of London & Westminster) to serve as “first citizen” of the borough.

Their role is ceremonial and they represent their borough, welcome guests and dignitaries and carry out a large number of visits to champion local causes in their boroughs. The civic mayors also raise a huge amount of money every year for charities across London. In addition, they also chair Council meetings in their boroughs.

By custom and practice, Civic Mayors carry out their duties in an impartial and non-Party political manner.
